In-Year Admissions to Sir Thomas Rich's School
We occasionally admit boys under our In Year Admissions protocol throughout the academic year. This protocol permits us to offer places above our Published Admission Number of 120.
Admission is subject to boys meeting the academic standard and there being available places in the relevant year group. There are three tests – English, mathematics and science.
Regrettably, we currently have no available places to join Sir Thomas Rich’s in any year groups. Any applications received will therefore be refused under the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, on the grounds that compliance with the preference would prejudice the provision of efficient education or the efficient use of resources for reasons of overcrowding. You do have a legal right of appeal against a decision to refuse a place and should you wish to do this, please contact Mrs Sue Bain, Registrar (Admissions) at Sir Thomas Rich’s, Oakleaze, Gloucester, GL2 0LF (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Admission Appeals are heard by an independent panel who consider your reasons for requesting a place at our School for your son. They do have the power to overturn the School’s decision if they feel this is appropriate based on the needs of your son and the capacity or resources of the School. Over the course of the 2016-2017 academic year, an Independent Admission Appeal Panel heard a total of 48 cases to join Sir Thomas Rich’s. Of these, 12 were upheld (offered a place) and 36 were refused.
Register of Indicated Interest
We do hold a Register of Indicated Interest for potential applicants. This means that if a place becomes available in your son’s year group, you will be contacted.
