In-Year Admissions to Sir Thomas Rich's School
We occasionally admit boys under our In Year Admissions protocol at the start of each academic year. This protocol permits us to offer places above our Published Admission Number.
Admission is subject to boys meeting the academic standard and there being suitable places in the relevant year group. There are three tests – including one in English Language and one in mathematics. Candidates must pass all three papers to meet the required academic standard. In line with our Admissions Policy, we will not automatically admit qualifying candidates in any year group. The candidate’s individual circumstances and the needs of the School will be considered when making a decision
Regrettably, we currently have no available places to join Sir Thomas Rich’s in any year groups. Any In Year applications received will therefore be refused under the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, on the grounds that compliance with the preference would prejudice the provision of efficient education or the efficient use of resources for reasons of overcrowding.
If you wish to make an In Year Application, please use the form below. Your application will be responded to within 15 school days, in writing (by email).
In Year Application Form
You do have a legal right of appeal against a decision to refuse a place and should you wish to do this, please contact STRS Admissions Registrar at Sir Thomas Rich’s, Oakleaze, Gloucester, GL2 0LF (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Admission Appeals are heard by an independent panel who consider your reasons for requesting a place at our School for your son. They do have the power to overturn the School’s decision if they feel this is appropriate based on the needs of your son and the capacity or resources of the School. Over the course of the 2020-2021 academic year, an Independent Admission Appeal Panel heard a total of 32 cases to join Sir Thomas Rich’s. Of these, 15 were upheld (offered a place) and 17 were refused.
Register of Indicated Interest
We do hold a Register of Indicated Interest for potential applicants. This means that if a place becomes available in your son’s year group, you will be contacted.
Please read the notes before completing and returning the form to Admissions Registrar at Sir Thomas Rich’s, Oakleaze, Gloucester, GL2 0LF (email@example.com).
