With the first half of the season completed the STRS chess team is performing fantastically well.

In the ECF National School’s Competition we won the Bristol heat with a 100% record (with our B team being the best of the second teams) and are now through to the regional knockout rounds. We are seeded 1st in the West of England and South Wales region, and have been given a bye in the 1st round. Having lost in the final of this region for each of the last 2 years, we hope to go one better this year.

In the North Gloucestershire (adult) League we are top of Division 2, with 4 wins and a draw from our fist 5 matches, having beaten both Cirencester 1st team and Gloucester 2nd team. This is the highest league position the school has achieved in recent memory.

We also came 18th in the National Schools Quickplay Competition held at Eton College in September.

Within school, 76 boys from Yr7 and 8 competed in a knockout competition, won by Danny Howlett (7S) with Gabe Jordan (7S) 2nd and Tobi Folayan (7R) 3rd. House Chess took pace over 3 lunchtimes in November with Westgate being victorious.
