39 students in Year 12 spent 3 days in Devon last week learning about a range of topics to support their Geography A level course. They completed various fieldwork techniques to include measuring carbon sequestration in a local forest, the width, depth, wetted perimeter and velocity along the River Harbourne and how infiltration rates vary downslope and on different land uses. These techniques help to give the students some ideas on how they might choose to collect data for their independent investigation, which is worth 20% of their A level.

We also managed to fit in a visit to the Plymouth Aquarium. We had excellent guides who gave us lots of information about how we are managing, or mismanaging in some cases, our oceans. The talk included a visit to the local fish market and Plymouth Quay to talk about EU quotas and different ways fishing can become more sustainable.
