Our A Level English Literature students visited Wycliffe College in Stonehouse this week to hear from poet, novelist, playwright and Professor in Creativity at Swansea University, Owen Sheers. Owen read excerpts from his BAFTA and Grierson nominated film-poem, The Green Hollow, a poetic history of the Aberfan disaster of 1966, his film-poem, created to mark the 70th anniversary of the NHS, To Provide All People and his verse drama Pink Mist, which tells the story of three young Bristolian soldiers returning home from Afghanistan and the challenges they face. He also read from his collection of poetry, Skirrid Hill (2005) which won the Somerset Maugham Award. Owen provided a fascinating insight into the inspiration for his work and the writing process. A big thank you to our friends at Wycliffe College for inviting us along to this very special event!
