Academic Excellence day to University of Bristol

On Monday, a group of 25 Year 11 students were lucky enough to visit Bristol University, for a taster day tailored to their interests. The day was based in the impressive School of Engineering, of which we had a helpful tour from a PhD student. He explained different fields of Engineering, showed us various machines and laboratories, and gave us an insight into what it meant to study for a doctoral thesis. Following this, students from different faculties including Veterinary Science, Law and Biology showed us different university departments, lecture theatres, libraries and sports facilities. The highlight of the day for many boys was our taster session in Engineering Mathematics. Dr Thilo Gross, a professor in the field, presented the group with a variety of exceptionally challenging applied mathematical problems. Together with the student helpers, the boys worked through their assigned problems and were highly praised by Dr. Gross for their perseverance and progress during the session.
