The STRS chess team has qualified for the National Finals of the ECF School’s Team Challenge, to be held at Imperial College, London in late March. This is a rapid-play event for teams of 4. STRS are among the 16 winners of the regional qualifying events.

We took 2 teams to the Bristol regional heat, splitting our playing strength into an U18 and an U16 team (Robert Ashworth, who usually plays board 2 for the school 1^st team, dropping down to lead the U16 team). Our U18 team won the event with 3 match wins and a draw from the 4 rounds, coming ahead of a strong Chepstow School team. Michael Ashworth and Anthony Ifeacho both won all their games. The U16 team did well in being undefeated with 3 match draws and a win, finishing 6^th coming ahead of a couple of school 1^st teams, with Robert Ashworth winning all his games.
