The STRS chess team has qualified for the finals of the ECF National Schools Chess Championships. We won the West Country region, winning a closely contested (and disputed) match 3.5 – 2.5 v QEH in the regional final.
There are 13 schools from across the country that have qualified for the finals. They will be joined by 3 teams from a repecharge competition. The finals take place at Uppingham School over 2 days on 5th and 6th July. The last time that STRS won through to the last 16 in the national knockout was in 1993.
The team will take huge encouragement from their exceptional performance in the National Schools Rapidplay Competition recently held at Imperial College, London. The STRS team came equal 4th, the best ever result in a national competition for chess at STRS.
