The First VII took on Malvern College last week in the first round of the Sisters N Sport Shield, the team came away with an incredible 49-19 win, with all nine players taking to the court.

With Katherine injuring her ankle earlier in the week the team missed a key player, but despite not playing, she stepped up to a coaching role and was crucial to the win. In the first quarter Malvern came out strong, with the STRS side pulling away with a 12-8 win, with our debuts Katie (GD) and Tilly (WD) turning over ball and applying constant pressure on the opposition. We also saw new combinations flow as they worked with Em at the back to really challenge Malvern in the circle.

A strong second quarter followed as no changes were made to the starting line up, with STRS taking the score to 24-15. Millie (C) and Evie (WA) worked incredibly hard to get the ball to goal. They were using constant speedy dodges and changes to outplay their defenders whilst also acting as a link to help the ball move seamlessly through court.

Quarter 3 was the strongest as the team scored 14 goals to 1, taking the score to 38-16. We saw a few changes to centre court as another debut Gabby (WA) and Juliet (WD) came on. They both made an immediate impact, turning ball and providing options down court.

The final quarter saw the girls secure the win, with a final score of 49-19. Molly (GA) and Niamh (GS) wrapped up an incredible game as they performed a shooting masterclass, with Niamh sinking shots from all over the circle and Molly taking more interceptions than ever.

Thank you to Malvern for an incredible first round and we wish them all the luck in the Bowl Tournament.
