7S have been outside today learning how to use quadrats in their Science lesson, as part of their Ecology topic. Next stop, the School pond! A quadrat is a square frame made of wood or plastic containing a grid to mark off smaller areas inside. The organisms underneath, usually plants, can be identified and counted. Quadrats are also be used for slow-moving animals, eg slugs and snails.
