Annual Prize Giving Ceremony
Published Monday 5 October 2026 by SJV
The School community came together on Friday evening for our annual Prize Giving, a special occasion celebrating the achievements, dedication and successes of our pupils over the past year. The evening was made particularly memorable by the presence of all our Year 7 pupils. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to see the achievements of older pupils celebrated and to be inspired by the hard work, commitment and ambition that can lead to such success. We hope the evening gave our newest cohort a glimpse of the many opportunities and achievements that lie ahead during their time at the School.
The evening was formally opened by Tom Grogan, Chair of Trustees, who warmly welcomed pupils, families, staff and guests. He reflected on the importance of recognising achievement and encouraging pupils to strive for their very best.
After the Headteacher's address, we were delighted to welcome Rachel Thorpe, Head of Alcester Grammar School, as our Guest of Honour and Speaker. As well as awarding the prizes, Ms Thorpe gave an engaging and inspiring address, sharing her thoughts on achievement, aspiration and the importance of making the most of the opportunities available to young people.
Our School Captains, Eilidh and Michael, introduced and welcomed Ms Thorpe, and offered a warm vote of thanks at the conclusion of the ceremony.
The Blue Coat Boy, Harrison in Year 10, presented a bouquet of thanks to Ms Thorpe. The role is an honour awarded by the School, to a pupil who is held in high regard. The Blue Coat Boy wears the traditional uniform of Sir Thomas Rich’s Blue Coat Hospital, as the School was originally known; no mean feat for Harrison as the uniform itself dates back to the 19th century and is made of extremely thick and heavy wool!
Music was another highlight of the evening, with the School Brass Band helping to create a fittingly celebratory atmosphere. Year 7 pupils also gave a spirited performance of the Tommy Psalm, having rehearsed diligently in preparation for the occasion. Their confident and enthusiastic singing was a real highlight of the evening.
Above all, Prize Giving was an opportunity to celebrate our pupils' hard work, recognising not only outstanding academic achievements, but also the perseverance, effort and determination that underpin success.
It was a fitting and inspiring evening, and one which reminded us of the wealth of talent and potential within our School community. Congratulations to all those who received prizes.
