Careers – Visit of Tom Burrows – Gloucester Rugby
This week we had a visit from Gloucester Rugby’s Media and Community Officer, Tom Burrows, who provided a presentation to a number of our students in relation to his role at the club. Tom’s presentation was a fascinating insight into many aspects of life behind the scenes at Kingsholm and how the general public’s appetite for news relating to Gloucester Rugby has grown out of all recognition with the advent of social media. The talk really did demonstrate the power of social media in today’s modern world and how a club like Gloucester has to compete not only on the pitch, but also off the field as well. Tom explained the importance of public relations, branding, marketing and media exposure to a club like Gloucester. He also highlighted the pressures, the intense scrutiny and the constant demands that are expected by the public in terms of news relating to Gloucester. Overall, the students gained a real insight into this new media world and we thank Tom for his time.
