Cup Success for First XI

A dominant performance against Beaufort resulted in a comfortable 3-0 victory and progression to the quarter finals of the County Cup. In a somewhat feisty encounter, Tommies managed to play their excellent brand of flowing football, ignoring the biting challenges of their city opponents. The first goal came when Townsend timed his run perfectly to beat the offside trap before keeping his cool to send a deft chip over the advancing keeper. Constant pressure then led to Smerdon finding space on the edge of the opposition box, working the ball onto his stellar left foot and firing the ball into the top corner. Tommies then played some superb football in the second half, narrowly missing some chances and hitting the woodwork twice. Captain Ranken, deep in his own half, then spotted the run of Smerdon and supplied him with a pinpoint long ball into the Beaufort box; Smerdon pulled the ball down and finished with aplomb, taking his tally for the season to four. We look forward to taking on either Farmors or Cotswold.
