Das Gruselhaus

Recently, pupils in Years 7-10 enjoyed a live performance of Das Gruselhaus (“The Spooky House”) by the Onatti Theatre Company in the School hall. The production combined an engaging storyline with lively performances and plenty of physical comedy. Pupils had the chance to hear German used naturally, which helped improve their listening skills and made the story easy to follow. Two of our Year 10 pupils had the following reviews:

“It was really entertaining and included an amazing level of slapstick humour and other funny jokes. I was able to understand most of the dialogue and the acting made it easier for everyone to follow the plot. I learnt a lot of new vocabulary and really enjoyed this very different German lesson.” Henry D (10R)

“I thoroughly enjoyed the play and found the many comical elements entertaining and the storyline very engaging. Hearing so much German in context really helped with my understanding of the language and gave me new vocabulary to use in the future, making it a very beneficial experience. I also found that the level of German used was similar to my level of the language so it was understandable but still a challenge. For these reasons I would definitely recommend the play to anyone who would like to develop their language skills in a fun way!” Ben L (10R)

The visit provided a memorable opportunity for pupils to experience language learning beyond the classroom and showed how live theatre can make German both accessible and enjoyable.

Our thanks to the Onatti cast and crew once again for a fantastic performance.
