Former pupil Jacob Barns is principal cellist for the opening piece of The last Night of the Proms, at the Albert Hall this Saturday 10th September. It is a new work called Raze by Tom Harrold and as leader of the cellos, he was fortunate to work with the composer to interpret the work for his section.

He was selected, alongside 3 other cellists from about 400 applications, many of whom were older and already at music colleges and conservatoires. He spent time over the summer rehearsing at Maida Vale studios with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, which was a wonderful experience.

We wish him all the very best.
