Students and staff at Sir Thomas Rich’s are celebrating outstanding GCSE results today. The Headmaster, Matthew Morgan, said: “This really is an excellent set of results, our Year 11 – and Year 13 students who received their results last week – should be very proud indeed. Notably, these young people attained high grades as well as participating fully in sport, drama, music and other co-curricular activities. I would like to thank all the teachers and support staff for all they have done to support our students.

“This year the more lenient thresholds applied during the pandemic years were removed and public examinations returned to the way in which they were assessed pre-2020; I’m delighted that our students have not only met but exceeded this challenge admirably.”

GCSE

At GCSE, pupils achieved the best results judged on most measures, apart from the exceptional pandemic years. Almost half of grades (49%) were at grades 8 or 9 with 72% at grade 7 or above and 98% at least grade 5. Of the 155 pupils in this year group, 74 individuals each gained at least eight GCSEs at grades 7-9.

“I’m really pleased with my results,” said Year 11 pupil George, “and I’m looking forward to starting in the Sixth Form here in September!”

A Level

At A level, Year 13 students have achieved the school’s best ever results as a cohort, apart from the exceptional pandemic years. In total just under 22% of the grades awarded were A*, and the average grade awarded was an A. In addition, 75% of pupils achieved at least one grade A or A*, with 65 students obtaining three A Levels at these grades – 19 of whom obtained at least three A* grades.

School Captain Mae Singer said: “I am so grateful for the support from my subject teachers and the wider Sixth Form Team at Sir Thomas Rich’s, I couldn’t have achieved my three A* grades without them. I’m now really looking forward to using my gap year productively and applying to top universities next year.”
