German Christmas Traditions

Our Year 7 German classes marked Nikolaus by leaving a shoe in the corridor and waiting to see what would appear: a chocolate (nice) or a twig (naughty)? When they returned, every shoe held a chocolate - true to German tradition - and with no twigs in sight. Many thanks to our Sixth Form students for taking on the role of Nikolaus! St. Nicholas Day is celebrated in Germany on 6 December and marks the beginning of the Christmas season. It is a day filled with various traditions and customs, such as children placing their shoes or boots outside their doors to be filled with treats by St. Nicholas. This holiday is rooted in the historical figure of St. Nicholas, known for his generosity and kindness.
