On 14th January, the Boys Senior Hockey team travelled across to Campion School, Northants, for the first round of the Schools Cup. The game started well for Tommies, getting a goal in the first 10 minutes, through captain for the day, Andrew Gayler. Many more chances were created; however the scored remained 1-0 until the break. Buoyed at half time, Tommies came out and extended their lead as Dan Ladd tucked the ball home from close range. Tommies looked to kill the game off, and did so with 15 minutes to go, as top scorer for the season so far, Henry Edwards, squeezed the ball home at the back post. This was a great start to the competition, and the squad look forward to the next match against either Rugby School or Downside School, Bath.
On Wednesday Tommies travelled to Cokethorpe in Witney. It took the boys a few minutes to settle into their game, but when they did they were clinical right into the circle, and it took some brave goalkeeping from the home team to keep the score down. The line was finally breeched after ten minutes. Another goal quickly followed before Cokethorpe clawed one back form a penalty corner.
Tommies totally dominated the second half, and there was some superb teamwork that led to each of the three goals. The final score of 5-2 demonstrates Tommies have the ability to convert some of the chances they made for themselves.
Chris Tarling was voted man of the match for the second week. A special thanks goes to Angus Jones for volunteering to stand between the posts and enabling the rest of the team to play.
Well done team!
