Marking Black History Month in Lessons

Marking Black History Month in Lessons

October is Black History Month and the theme this year is 'Honouring Our Communities', celebrating those who shape diverse communities every day. Within School, students have been discussing political representation of different communities in Sixth Form Politics lessons, the part played by Black soldiers from around the Empire in our Year 9 WW1 History topic, and Year 8 this year will be exploring Medieval African Kingdoms, a topic they helped embed in our History curriculum.

Of course this is not just about one month, and we continue to learn about and celebrate a diverse range of experiences in our History lessons throughout the year. For more information on this year's theme, see www.blackhistorymonth.org.uk/black-history-month-2026.
