Pupils had the unique opportunity to meet the British Ambassador to the United States, Sir Christian Turner KCMG, during a memorable half-term study visit to New York and Washington DC.
In Washington DC, the group met Sir Christian, who spoke about his new role, his diplomatic career and the realities of representing the UK on the global stage. Pupils were able to ask questions about international relations and what it is like to meet world leaders, gaining valuable insight into public service and diplomacy.
The visit formed part of a packed and enriching itinerary. In New York, pupils travelled to Liberty Island and the Ellis Island Immigration Museum, visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, and enjoyed dinner in Times Square. They also attended a talk by civil rights activist Mark Levy, who was present when Dr Martin Luther King Jr delivered his historic “I Have a Dream” speech.
In DC, the group visited the Supreme Court, toured the Capitol, explored the Holocaust Memorial Museum and visited Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington.
The trip provided pupils with a deeper understanding of American history, government and civil rights, bringing classroom learning to life.
