GCSE and A level musicians were treated to a composition workshop from the Carducci String Quartet this week. The award-winning Quartet is internationally acclaimed as one of the most accomplished and versatile ensembles of today. Our musicians were treated to performances of a range of string quartet repertoire from Haydn to Philip Glass, as well as analysis and demonstrations of a range of composition techniques and the vast range of sounds and playing techniques possible on string instruments. The Quartet even created some spontaneous compositions inspired by Shostakovich’s musical cryptogram.
