Routes Into Languages

The Languages Department was once again pleased to enter students for the Routes into Languages Speaking competition in Bath. This year, alongside students of French, German and Spanish, the school had two entries for Russian in the near-native category. The competition was hosted by the Head of the School of Languages, Bristol University who extended a warm welcome to all and applauded the interest, courage and efforts of the pupils in taking part in the competition. He was later to express his delight at the standard of the competition and his confidence in MFL teaching in schools which would secure strong numbers of students at university level.
Our pupils proved to be excellent representatives of the school, standing up well against strong competition. All performed well, presenting their topic with fluency, accuracy and confidence. Three pupils were runners-up in their category and they now go forward to the Regional Final at the University of Bath in June. Congratulations go to Michael Ashworth, Alexander Myagkov and Samuel King.
