Rugby 7s Success

Congratulations to the Year 7 and Year 8 Rugby 7s teams who went to the Summer Fields 7s competition over the weekend, with both teams getting to the Cup Final match. The Year 7 side (pictured above) didn't lose a game throughout the day and won the Cup Final; overcoming tough opposition in Cothill House School, Ludgrove School, Warwick School, Beaudesert Park School and then beating Berkhamstead 20-10 in the final to take home the silverware. What a fantastic achievement, a huge well done to all involved. It wasn’t to be for the Year 8 team as they were just short of victory; after defeating Moulsford Prep, Summer Fields School and Dean Close, they narrowly lost out to Berkhamstead School in the final, 10-5. What a fantastic achievement to get to the final.
U15 7s: A massive well done to the U15 Vll side, who finished 2nd in their group at King’s Worcester 7s and went on to win the Plate. The boys faced some very tough opposition. Firstly, a victory against Gloucester school St Peter’s before another win against Alcester Grammar School. The final game of the group was a defeat to a strong Monmouth side who went on to win the whole competition. This was the only loss they had in the tournament. The Plate semi-final was a great victory against hosting team King’s Worcester which led to a Plate final match against Ysgol Bro Edern. A great display of 7s in the final saw the boys seal a 26-7 victory and the silverware was ours to take home! Congratulations to all involved.
1st VII: The season ended with the 1st Vll reaching the cup semi-final against a very strong Ellesmere College side at Droitwitch RFC. The boys finished top of their group with a 24-24 draw vs KSW, a 40-12 win vs King’s Gloucester and a 26-7 win against Malvern College. The cup semi-final was a big one as we faced Dean Close to see who could reach the final. The Rich’s side triumphed with a 35-24 win. The final was a close battle in the first half and our boys having the majority of possession; 14-14 at half time. Ellesmere proved too strong in the second half and scored two breakaway tries to leave us with a lot of work to do. Tired legs at the end meant they took the victory 40-14, but second place was a great achievement for the young STRS side.
