Past and present members of the Sir Thomas Rich’s Brass Band have joined together for a moving performance of the School song, the Tommy Psalm. After rehearsing together by Zoom, each band member recorded their piece separately for the final performance; an amazing team effort directed by Headmaster Mr Morgan and produced by Band member Louis Appleyard. Mr Morgan commented: “We’re carrying on with our Zoom practices, and it was great to see some familiar faces. I was impressed that those who left the School some years ago were still able to remember the notes!”

The Tommy Psalm is sung on Speech Night every autumn, and on other important School occasions and reminds us of the original benefactor of the school, Sir Thomas Rich, who left £6000 (around £680,000 in today’s money) in his will in 1666 to establish the Blue Coat Hospital and provide education for 20 poor local boys.
