Last week 12 members of our Senior Debate Team travelled to Liverpool to take part in the National Session of the European Youth Parliament, following their successful performance at the regional finals back in March. It was the first time a school has been successful in taking two groups to the finals and all 12 students were a credit to Rich's.
The students spent two days in committees with pupils from other schools writing their motions on topics including and gender pain gap, housing shortages, photonics based early cancer detection, the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty and education in the developing world. The motions they created were of exceptional quality, which ensured the highest level of debating in the General Assembly, which took place on days three and four. Students from the school were complimented for their humour, knowledge, participation, eloquence and work ethic. The results of the session will be received shortly, and we wish all of the debaters the very best of luck.
