Recent Old Richian, Tom Grime, returned to school to advise current Year 12 students on applications to medical school. Tom has just completed his first year reading medicine at Sheffield University. He explained how vital it was for aspiring medics to visit a good number of departments – he recommended six to eight. Only is this way could a prospective medic get all of his or her questions answered, not least, “does my personal profile fit the expectations of this medical school?” With regard to the interview, Tom advised students to raise their awareness of topical health issues, for example, the recent measles epidemic in Swansea. In summary, this was an excellent presentation, providing helpful, fresh information for those seeking to take their first steps towards becoming doctors. We look forward to welcoming Tom back to his old school next year.
