Mrs Harris one of our Government and Politics teachers, attended a 3 day course to become a UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador. During successful completion of the course Mrs Harris met with MPs Chi Onwurah and Richard Graham, The Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow, Baroness McIntosh and Baroness Garden, Judith Boyce- clerk of the Women and Equalities Select Committee and Emma McIntosh from the Petitions Committee. The course is designed to raise awareness of the business of parliament and engage young people in the democratic process. The course was packed with interesting facts about the history of parliament, its evolution and the people that work within the Palace of Westminster. As a result of her visit Mrs Harris will be organising a series of events next academic year. We are delighted to confirm that we have Mr Mark Levy, a Civil Rights Veteran from the USA coming to work with students in September, Lord Tyler visiting the school in October to talk about the work of a peer and a range of other events planned to engage students in all year groups. Rt Hon John Bercow MP, Speaker of the House of Commons, said about the programme:“I am proud that this excellent initiative continues to provide such an invaluable service. Better engagement and dialogue with young people is of fundamental importance to our democracy..”
