Hugh Edney in Year 10 travelled to the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepoint, Nottingham for the British Rowing Junior Championships last Friday. Hugh raced in a Junior15 double scull with his Upton Rowing Club partner George Jones. First they had to complete a 900m time trial, with 34 crews from around the country entered in this category, and the time trial determined which six lane final Hugh would qualify for - A to F with the medal race being the A final. Hugh and George achieved the fifth fastest time, qualifying for the A final!

Later in the day, they raced the 1000m final finishing fifth - only five seconds behind the winning crew (Lea Rowing Club). A fantastic achievement in a national competition and unprecedented in Upton Rowing Club history.

Well done Hugh, your school is very proud of you.
