Year 12 Extracurricular Assembly

Extracurricular Taster Fortnight is now underway across the School, giving pupils the opportunity to try something new and explore the wide range of clubs and activities on offer. Running until 2 October, the initiative has also provided an opportunity for our Year 12 students to think about their own involvement beyond the classroom, beginning with the launch of the Tommy’s Award. The award encourages students to build a strong record of their leadership, commitment and specialisation in areas beyond the classroom. This was followed by a student-led assembly showcasing the breadth of extracurricular and ‘supercurricular’ opportunities available across the School. (Supercurricular can cover areas like subject specialist enrichment, academic reading or entering an external essay writing competition.)

Mr Marks shared some of his own experiences of getting involved in extracurricular activities, before our Year 13 students, many of whom established societies themselves during Year 12, introduced the wide range of opportunities available to students.

From The Female Lead Society, music clubs, Maths Society and Engineering, to Growing and Gardening, MedSoc, History and Computing, and even a brand new Rubik's Club, there is plenty for students to explore. They also heard about opportunities to lead, mentor and develop their academic interests beyond the curriculum, while gaining valuable experience and evidence for future UCAS applications.

The assembly was a great example of students creating opportunities for others and contributing to the wider life of the School.
