Year 12 Lead Primary Science Sessions
Published Tuesday 30 June 2026 by SJV
This week we welcomed local primary school pupils for the last Shaping Futures session before the end of term. Our Year 12 mentors have been fantastic role models throughout the programme, building great relationships with their young mentees over the year. Activities included using microscopes and exploring skeletons and bones in Lab 2, before heading over to Lab 3 to make working periscopes.
We were also doing some filming of the workshops today, to use in future presentations to primary schools and parents; all the pupils were of course superstars and took this completely in their stride!
After a quick break for some squash and snacks, the groups swapped over and pupils worked in the computer classrooms using the Atom Learning platform to develop some of the skills they will need if they choose to sit the Gloucestershire Grammar School Admissions Test.
Shaping Futures sessions have been taking place over the last few months at Sir Thomas Rich’s for eligible local pupils in Years 4 and 5, offering enrichment activities and targeted support to help prepare pupils for the Test in September. The final sessions will take place in the summer holidays.
