Year 8 Fieldtrip to Porthcawl and Southerndown Bay

Year 8 visited two sites in South Wales last week to extend and improve their knowledge of coastal processes and landforms. Each class spent half a day on the beach at Porthcawl and the wave-cut platform at Southerndown Bay. The weather was wet and windy, however, this didn't stop the boys making some excellent field sketches and completing the tasks in their booklet. I asked my class, 8S, to evaluate the fieldtrip in their exercise books on their return. The boys especially enjoyed the Geology session looking at the limestone cliffs, landslides, folds and faults with Mr Green. We felt this was important as it gave the boys a chance to meet the teacher who will take them in Year 9, should they opt to study for their GCSE Geology as an extra course during their lunchtimes. Thank you to all the staff that helped on the trip and to Mrs Harris for all her hard work in adding this new trip to the Year 8 curriculum.
